The British Quilt Study Group (BQSG)Annual Conference and Seminar 2003 New Hall College, Cambridge.
Attandance this year was the highest since the Group began and all the week-end's activites were well-received and appreciated. The event was organised by Carolyn Ferguson, the Guild's Heritage Officer, who had done a brilliant job in arranging for all the events, the venue and accommodation in Hall.
On Friday there was a visit to Hemingford Grey to see the patchworks of Lucy Boston, followed in the evening by a fascinating talk by Carol Humphries of the Fitzwilliam Museum on the Sampler collection at the Museum.
On Saturday our Keynote speaker was the distinguished American quilt scholar, Laurel Horton, who spoke about aspects of quilt research. Teo other papers were read: Rachel Nichols on Bible Quilts and Sheilah Daughtree on Quilted Petticoats.
On Sunday three hands-on Workshops were offered: Laurel Horton on You Too Can Do Quilt Research, Deryn O'Connor and Tina Fenwick smith on Dating and identifying fabrics, while I was joined by Carolyn to give Looking at Old Quilts. So many quilts worthy of special suty were brought to our Wrokshop that we could have spent days examining and discussing them!
