Another book inspired by a State Documentaion Project, this one carried out in Lancaster County, where many Amish, Mennonite and German settlements were established and where the customs and traditions of those early communities still flourish. The distinctive quilt styles which these groups developed are now well-known and this book places the patterns and techniques in their historical and social contexts by describing and illustrating the lives lived there. Sometimes individual families and their quilts and patterns can be traced and these are described and illustrated. Another excellent addition to the shelves of any aspiring quilt scholar or historian, or for anyone interested in the social history of the quilt in America.
